Diagnostics of skin cancer

Skin cancer is one of the most common types of cancer. It has also been estimated that nearly half of all Americans who live to the age of 65 will develop skin cancer at least once. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is useful to differentiate between normal skin and tumours. OCT is a non-invasive optical imaging technique that uses diffusive light propagation to provide high-resolution, depth-resolved information about materials such as human tissues.

Dermalumics, a Madrid based Med-tech company, has developed a product called NITID which is a breakthrough & cutting-edge diagnostic imaging solution for Dermatology. It combines three imaging modalities in one (clinical camera, Digital Dermatoscopy and an Optical Coherence Tomography system) in a truly portable device.

A conventional motor would break when the device is pressed against the patients skin. With Piezo LEGS® the possibility to manually override the motor was critical when chosing a motor for NITID.  By using Piezo LEGS®  technology Dermalumics could integrate a small and strong motor in NITID.
